Grinch Hot Chocolate Sticks Recipe (2024)

How to make Grinch hot chocolate sticks. Hot chocolate sticks are similar to hot chocolate bombs, but they are easier to make without a special mold. With just three ingredients plus sprinkles, you can make these adorable Grinch themed hot cocoa stirrers.

By now, you've seen hot chocolate bombs all over Tiktok and Instagram Reels. They are super fun to use, but they admittedly aren't super fun to make.

They aren't extremely difficult to make, but you do need a special mold. The mold has been sold out in craft stores for months, so I came up with an alternative.

Enter the Grinch hot chocolate sticks. These are so fun and easy to make, and you don't need a special mold. In fact, I used Dixie cups for mine!

These hot chocolate stirrers are perfect for parties or kids. Just get a mug of warm milk and stir with this hot chocolate stick for a delicious cup of Grinch green hot cocoa.

My old stand by for hot chocolate for a crowd was this easy Crock Pot slow cooker hot chocolate recipe. It's delicious and easy to make hours before the party.

While hot chocolate bombs are a lot of fun, it would take a bit to make as many as this recipe makes. This recipe makes 36 servings, so you will save a lot of time!

My kids love hot chocolate. We also love the Grinch. I've seen Grinch hot chocolate done several times, and I've even made it a few times.

Last week we talked about how to make hot chocolate sticks recipe, and I wanted to offer a slightly different way of making them.

For the milk chocolate sticks, I used an 8x8 baking pan; for these I used Dixie cups. You can make either one using either method, but the Grinch ones are firmer due to the chocolate that I used.

Grinch Hot Chocolate Sticks Recipe (3)

Personally, I really like the Dixie cups. I make mine with two layers of chocolate with marshmallows in between the layers. This is optional, but I love how it turned out.

If you want to make white hot chocolate sticks, this is the recipe to use. Just use white wafers instead of green wafers.

I haven't tried it with milk chocolate, so refer to my other recipe to make milk chocolate or dark chocolate.

How to Use Grinch Hot Chocolate Sticks

For best results, you're going to want to use warm milk and not warm water. This doesn't have a powdered milk in it like hot cocoa bombs do, so it's definitely best with milk.

Grinch Hot Chocolate Sticks Recipe (4)

To use, simply fill a mug with warm milk. Then stir the hot cocoa stick in the milk until it dissolves. Then enjoy your hot cocoa.

Chocolate

I used green white chocolate wafers to make my Grinch hot chocolate sticks recipe. I found that it was easier to just start with green and not risk the chocolate seizing on me if I added food coloring to the milks.

You can get green chocolate wafers on Amazon or on Etsy.

I did not try this with white chocolate chips. I think they will be too soft for this mold, so if you do use them, I recommend keeping them in the fridge before you serve them.

Molds

I just used 3 ounce paper cups. You want to use an ounce of chocolate for these, so you'll have space leftover to add marshmallows.

You can also pour it into an 8x8 pan or use a silicone mini muffin pan or silicone ice cube tray. If you use a metal pan, line it with foil before pouring.

If you use a silicone mold, you'll probably have to pipe the chocolate into the mold and add the marshmallows to the top. Work quickly because it will start to set up fast.

Sticks

You can use popsicle sticks or cake pop sticks. I buy the reusable cake pop sticks.

They are dishwasher safe, so you can reuse them. But they are still inexpensive enough that if someone does toss it, it doesn't cost a lot of money.

You can also use plastic spoons to make them. I find that letting them set up first before adding the stick helps keep them straight. This makes storing them in the fridge easier too.

Grinch Hot Chocolate Sticks Toppings

I layered my Grinch hot chocolate sticks with mini marshmallows, but you can use one of the following either inside your hot cocoa stirrers or on top.

On top, I added heart shaped candy sprinkles for the Grinch's heart growing. Awwwww....

Try one of the following toppings:

Grinch Hot Chocolate Stick Tips and Tricks

Melted chocolate can get air bubbles. After you pour the chocolate, gently tap the mold or cup to remove trapped air.

Chocolate is easy to layer and will stick to itself even if it's cooled. You have plenty of time to get the top layer of chocolate on these.

You can add the sticks while they are warm, but the sticks will fall over. I put them in after it was set up.

If you do add toppings, gently press them down so they stick.

You can make these a day or two before you need them. Store them in the fridge in an air tight container.
