What is Carbquik?
Cris here.
When I first started low carb living I tried all kinds of products and recipes that attempted to replicate some of my carb loaded favorite foods. There were some wins and some major fails, but during that process we discovered Carbquik and it quickly it became a staple ingredient in our low carb kitchen.
So, what is Carbquik? It is a low carb biscuit mix alternative that behaves very similar to the traditional bisquick you find at the grocery store.
What does Carbquik taste like?
On Amazon Carbquik says ” Carbquik is a complete, low carb baking mix made with Carbalose that is similar to Bisquick. Since Carbquik is made from Carbalose instead of regular flour, it contains 90% less Net Carbs than Bisquick. Carbquik can be used in many recipes, such as biscuits, muffins, pancakes, waffles, pizza crust, and dumplings, as well as many cake and sweet dough recipes. “

After years of using (and loving) Carbquik, I’ve finally found a perfect biscuit recipe. This makes two large biscuits (I use them for bacon/egg/cheese biscuits). 2/3 cup CQ, 1/4 cup sour cream, 1 egg white and just enough water to make a thick dough. I bake then in ramekins sprayed with baking spray. 400 degrees for about 15 minutes. They hold together nicely and have really good flavor.

Hi Carol-
I haven’t tried bagels with it… you can definitely make bread in the shape of a bagel with it, but I am not sure you can get that texture with it. My favorite bagels are these (Netrition referral link) ThinSlim Foods Love the Taste Zero Carb BagelsHope that helps!

Hi Chris,
Do you think Carbquik would be an acceptable replacement for plain flour in making a pound cake? I have wondered about this ever since I got my first box.
Thanks for all the time you spend experimenting to come up with the recipes you share with us.
Hugs & love, Linda C.Reply
